After the surprise against defending champion Kansas City Chiefs, the Detroit Lions suffered a setback in the American NFL competition. In the home premiere, they lost in overtime to the Seattle Seahawks with 31:37. Smith finds Lockett for the touchdown – and with it the win.
Referee Alex Kemp provides the highlight of the day. When Smith comes roaring in at 5:21 with the score and complaining loudly, the referee calls a penalty and hits the player, saying, “Excuse me, I’m talking to America now! “One moment please.”
Last week the Detroit Lions won 21:20 at the Chiefs in the opening game of the competition. The team around star quarterback and birthday boy Patrick Mahomes (28) won on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars with 17:9. There’s a crazy game between Denver Broncos and Washington Commanders (33:35). With two seconds left, the Broncos manage a touchdown, but still need the 2-point conversion.
Wilson then passes the football to Sutton, who cannot catch it as he is held down. But because the referees improperly failed to intervene, Washington ultimately won. (AFP)
