Teddy Okou has been a household name among Swiss football fans since the beginning of June at the latest: with an incredible dribble in the second leg, the Frenchman decided the barrage between Stade Lausanne-Ouchy and FC Sion in favor of the neighborhood club Vaudois. All the more astonishing is what shines from the scoreboard in the Stockhorn Arena in Thun on Saturday evening. With his new club FC Luzern, Okou met the Bernese Oberland in the Cup Round of 16. And in the team presentation, in his substitution and then in his goal in extra time to make it 2-1, it says: Teddy bear Okou!
Funny? Racist? Uncomfortable? The people at FC Luzern are not happy about it. While mocking his winger, he tells Blick: “FC Luzern has no understanding for this incident – whether it happened consciously or unconsciously. “But Teddy Okou gave the only correct answer and his goal contributed decisively to Thun’s defeat.”
Thun apologizes
FC Thun apologized in the “Luzerner Zeitung” through spokeswoman Damaris Oesch: “That was not the intention. According to our technicians, the name was entered from another system. The entries have not been checked thoroughly enough. That is of course not okay, we apologize for this error.”
