In the last climb from Aigle to Torgon, Marlen Reusser tried to attack the top duo again. But Demi Vollering and Katarzyna Niewiadoma could not be caught.
The Dutch Vollering is the dominant figure in women’s cycling. And the 26-year-old, who won the Tour de France this year, also showed her class in the Tour of Romandie Féminin.
On the almost 111 km from Romont to Torgon, during which the climb to the Col des Mosses had to be conquered, Vollering was able to pull away from the field together with the Pole Niewiadoma and ultimately celebrate the stage victory and the lead in the general classification with a lead of two seconds.
Reusser shows strength as a climber
Reusser’s catch-up race went unrewarded, but with her journey to third place, the Bernese woman proved that she could keep up with the best even on hilly terrain. The second best Swiss woman was Elise Chabbey, who finished eleventh and lost almost two minutes.
The second edition of the Tour de Romandie for women ends on Sunday with the third stage from Vernier to Nyon over 132 km. (SDA)
