In just under a year, the Summer Olympics will take place in Paris. With this in mind, Swiss Olympic has awarded the first three starting places. Maud Jayet (27), Sébastien Schneiter (27) and Arno de Planta (24) have been selected for the sailing competitions taking place in Marseille.
Maud Jayet from Vaud competes in the ILCA-6 boat class. With her silver medal at the 2023 Sailing World Championships in The Hague in mid-August, the 27-year-old secured a Swiss quota place at the first opportunity and met the selection guidelines. This will be Jayet’s second Olympic participation after she finished 19th in the same class in Tokyo in 2021.
Sébastien Schneiter from Geneva will compete in the 49er class at the Summer Olympics for the third time – this time with Arno de Planta from Vaud. In 2016 in Rio de Janeiro (13th place) and in 2021 in Tokyo (14th place), Schneiter was there with Lucien Cujean. Arno de Planta, on the other hand, is participating in the Olympic Games for the first time. The 29-year-old Schneiter and the 24-year-old de Planta also won the silver medal in the 49er at the World Championships in The Hague. (SDA/mom)
