It is sad news that top skier Corinne Suter (28) has to deal with in the middle of the preparation for the new season: on Instagram the Schwyzerin mourns the loss of her beloved gray horse Nikito.

Suter, who started pony riding as a five-year-old, maintained her passion for horses as a professional athlete. Nikito has been a fixture for the world champion and Olympic champion for a long time. The horse did not belong to Suter herself, because according to her own statements she did not have time for it. But whenever possible she cared for the animal.

Even Lindsey Vonn is reacting to the news

“Whenever I’m around her, I can switch off immediately,” Suter once told Blick about her relationship with horses. “Then everything is very far away. I don’t even have to drive all the time, caring for the animal and even mucking out in the stable does me a lot of good. Then I’m in a different world.”

Corinne Suter writes on Instagram about Nikito’s death: “Farewell is the worst. I will always love you.” But Suter is not alone in her grief about the fungus. Several ski stars quickly responded with condolences to her Instagram post. In addition to teammates Joana Hählen and Jasmin Flury, American former ski dominator Lindsey Vonn also sent three broken heart emojis in response to the message. (cat)
