These are bitter days for ski racer Nina O’Brien (25). The American broke her left leg during the training camp in New Zealand. A return to the ski slopes in the coming season is therefore impossible.
She wrote on Instagram: “I am very sad to announce that I have left New Zealand after breaking my leg again. Ski racing, I love you, but wow, you can be brutal.”
Another injury
For O’Brien it is the second long disruption in a short time. In 2022, she suffered an open fracture in her tibia during the Olympic Games in Beijing. O’Brien was one of the contenders for a giant slalom medal at the time and finished sixth after the first run. But a crash in the second race shortly before the finish shattered the medal dreams.
After this drama, she fought her way back to the top of the world. Last season the team won gold at the World Championships in Courchevel and reached the top 10 in the giant slalom at Kronplatz.
O’Brien has been active on the World Cup circuit since 2016. To date, she has achieved a top 10 placement three times. She has so far missed a podium place. (Gentlemen)
