Svenja Huth has every reason to shine.

On August 3, the World Cup adventure of the German footballers came to an abrupt end. The 1-1 draw against South Korea sealed their elimination from the group stage. Pure disappointment for Svenja Huth (32) and her teammates.

About a month later, rush hour has forgotten everything. Instead, she wallows in baby bliss. As Huth announced on Instagram, she and her wife Laura have become parents. Emil is the name of the couple’s son, who has been married since 2022.

It was only in mid-July that Huth spoke in the ZDF documentary ‘Born for this – More than football’ about how she and Laura were expecting offspring thanks to artificial insemination. The two had opted for the so-called Ropa method. Huth’s eggs were removed, fertilized, and then used on her wife. The whole thing was carried out in Spain – unlike Germany it is legal there.

Pre-adoption drug test

Although both are biological mothers of little Emil, this is not yet the case under German law. There, only Laura is considered a mother – in Spain that would be different. Huth, on the other hand, has to adopt her own son. A situation that she describes as “humiliating” in the documentary.

She can only apply for adoption eight weeks after birth. To do this, Huth must provide proof of salary, a notarial deed, an extensive certificate of good conduct and a negative drug test. Under certain circumstances, it may take up to two years for Svenja Huth to become Emil’s legal mother.

This is met with incomprehension by the couple. “We’re married, we can’t really have more children,” Laura said in the documentary. “You would like to see more equality.”

Even if the situation around her is disturbing, it doesn’t change the great love she has for her son. (beer)
