Attacking player Antony (23) will no longer play for his club Manchester United until further notice. The Red Devils leave the Brazilian out of the selection for the time being. The reason for this is allegations of abuse: Antony is said to have physically attacked his ex-partner Gabriella Cavallin (23) several times during their relationship. The suspect subsequently denied all allegations in a statement on social media.
In a statement, the English record champions wrote: “Manchester United acknowledges the allegations against Antony. The players who have not participated in international matches will be allowed to return to training on Monday. However, it was agreed with Antony that he would postpone his return until further notice to deal with the allegations.”
We condemn any form of violence and abuse and want to protect everyone involved in this situation. According to information from ESPN, Antony will not be suspended, but will be given leave and will therefore continue to be paid by the club during his absence.
“Will cooperate with the police”
The 23-year-old has spoken out on social media about his temporary leave. “I have agreed with Manchester United to take some time off while I deal with the allegations against me,” he wrote in an Instagram story. He made the decision together with those responsible to avoid distraction for his teammates and unnecessary controversy for the club.
“I would like to emphasize once again that I am innocent. “I will fully cooperate with the police to help them find the truth,” Antony concluded his statement. He looks forward to playing again as soon as possible.
It is still unclear how long the Manchester United winger will be missing. Antony was previously removed from the Brazilian national team squad. The leave is intended to help him defend himself against the charges. (mbi)
