Martina Voss-Tecklenburg is missing for the upcoming matches in Germany.

Bad news for the German national women’s team. Martina Voss-Tecklenburg (55) is missing from the first international matches after the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. As the German newspaper Bild writes, the national coach has been on sick leave for an indefinite period in recent days.

Her husband Hermann Tecklenburg (75) explains to Bild: “The World Cup in Australia has asked a lot of her. She came back from Australia already sick, she was mentally and physically weak. After the surprising elimination in the group stage of the World Cup, there was also internal criticism of Voss-Tecklenburg, but she absolutely wanted to continue as national coach.

Time of return still unknown

In recent weeks, the 55-year-old has been working on the World Cup internally, together with the rest of the technical staff, players and management. Now the former coach of the Swiss national women’s team has to take some time off. “She is now recovering in our garden, taking it easy and reading a lot. I will take care of you. That’s why I’m here. After all, I am her husband,” says Hermann Tecklenburg.

It is still unclear exactly how long Voss-Tecklenburg will be out. As the DFB reports, she will not be on the sidelines for the two Nations League matches in Denmark (September 22) and against Iceland (September 26). She is represented there by assistant coach Britta Carlson (45). U17 national coach Sabine Loderer (42) will temporarily strengthen the technical staff. (mbi)
