Elaine Thompson-Herah is back with an impressive victory at the new circuit in Brussels

Elaine Thompson-Herah is still in shape this season. The 31-year-old from Jamaica, who completed the Olympic sprint double in both Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2021, won the 100m sprint as part of the Diamond League in Brussels in a strong 10.83 seconds.

Thus, the new circuit was inaugurated under perfect conditions of 27 degrees and no wind. Thompson-Herah struggled with injuries during the tests and therefore missed the World Cup ticket. Now she is preparing for the Olympic season: in Weltklasse Zurich 11.00 seconds brought her 3rd place, last Monday in Bellinzona she stayed under 11 seconds (10.92) for the first time and now she was almost a tenth again faster .

Jamaican world champion Shericka Jackson put in a world-class performance in the 200 m. In 21.48 seconds, she came very close to the age-old record of American Florence Griffith-Joyner (21.34, 1988).

Jakob Ingebrigtsen even gave the Belgians a world record, in which he improved the 24-year-old record at the very rarely run distance of 2000 meters. In 4:43.13 minutes he was about a second and a half below Hicham El Guerrouj’s performance in 1999.

As with Weltklasse Zurich, Armand Duplantis attempted the world height record of 6.23 m. The pole vaulter was closer to success than a week ago. On the third attempt, little was missing. (SDA)
