Joe Burrow has been awarded a huge contract for his strong performance in the NFL.

The Cincinnati Bengals make their quarterback Joe Burrow (26) the highest paid professional in the National Football League. Various American media reported on Thursday that an agreement had been reached on a five-year contract worth $ 275 million. Burrow will receive a guaranteed salary of $219.01 million.

With annual earnings of $55 million, Burrow surpasses former record holder Justin Herbert (25). The Los Angeles Chargers quarterback earns $52.5 million a year.

Joe Burrow was drafted first by the Bengals in 2020 and brought the Ohio franchise back into the Super Bowl race. In 2022, the Bengals were in a Super Bowl for the first time since 1988, but lost to the Los Angeles Rams 20:23.

Overall, no one can top the star of quarterback Patrick Mahomes (27). The two-time Super Bowl champion negotiated a ten-year, $477 million deal with the Kansas City Chiefs three years ago.

Mahomes and his Chiefs opened the NFL season against the Detroit Lions on Friday night. The star quarterback suffered a 20:21 defeat to the underdog.

The records tumble

A day before Joe Burrow, another superstar signs a record deal. Defensive end Nick Bosa (25) extends his contract with last year’s Super Bowl finalist San Francisco 49ers and gets a new contract that will earn him $34 million a year. In total, the star defender will receive $170 million over the next five years, of which $112.5 million is guaranteed. This makes Bosa the salary king among defensemen in the NFL.

Bosa is gold for his strong record last season. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year led the league with 18.5 sacks. However, the negotiations were not easy. The 25-year-old refused to participate in the 49ers’ pre-season, but successfully went on strike due to the new contract. (SDA/jsl)
