Molano wins the 12th Vuelta stage.

Colombian professional cyclist Juan Sebastian Molano has won the twelfth stage of the Vuelta. A day before the difficult climb to the Col du Tourmalet, the 28-year-old (UAE Team Emirates) triumphed after 150.6 km in Zaragoza ahead of the Australian Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck) and the Dutchman Boy van Poppel (Intermarche Circus Wanty).

The American Sepp Kuss (Jumbo-Visma) again successfully defended the red jersey of the leader in the general classification. The first pursuer remains the Spaniard Marc Soler (UAE Team Emirates), 26 seconds back. Defending champion Remco Evenepoel (Belgium/Soudal-Quick Step) follows in third place, ahead of three-time Vuelta winner Primoz Roglic (Slovenia). Tour champion Jonas Vingegaard (Denmark/both Jumbo-Visma) is seventh.

The best German on Thursday was Kim Alexander Heiduk (Ineos Grenadiers) in 17th place. Lennard Kämna (Bora-hansgrohe), who won the ninth Vuelta stage last Sunday, finished 112th.

In the 13th stage over 134.7 km from Formigal-Huesca la Magia to the Tourmalet, a total of four mountains await the riders on Friday, two of which are in the highest category. The Vuelta traditionally ends on September 17 (Sunday) in Madrid. (AFP/Mom)
