The 11th stage of the Tour of Spain ended in a domestic victory. On the final climb to the mountain lake Laguna Negra, Jesus Herrada proved to be the strongest rider in what was originally a leading group of 26.
With an attack in the last meters of the 6.5 km final climb, Herrada secured the decision and thus the first victory for a Spaniard in the 78th edition of the Vuelta. For the 33-year-old of Team Cofidis, it was the third stage success in the third most important Grand Tour after 2019 and 2022.

The favorites for the overall victory crossed the finish line almost six minutes after Herrada. Sepp Kuss defended the leader’s red jersey without any problems on the stretch that had no topographical difficulties until the final climb. The American continues to lead the overall standings, 26 seconds ahead of Spaniard Marc Soler and 1:09 ahead of last year’s winner Remco Evenepoel.
Thursday’s 12th stage should be one of the few chances for the sprinters in this year’s Vuelta before the day after the king’s stage finishes at the famous Col du Tourmalet in France. (men/SDA)
