Colombian cyclist Miguel Angel Lopez has been suspended for a possible doping violation.
Specifically, it concerns “the use and possession of a prohibited substance in the weeks before the Giro d’Italia 2022”, as the International Cycling Union UCI explained. Lopez is provisionally suspended pending a final decision.
Miguel was the winner of the 2016 Tour de Suisse
In October last year, the Kazakh world tour team separated Astana from the Colombian after the cyclist allegedly collaborated with a doctor accused of trafficking in doping substances.
The 29-year-old mountain specialist has achieved great success so far. He won a stage in the Tour de France in 2020, won the Tour de Suisse in 2016 and finished third on the podium in both the Giro d’Italia and the Vuelta in 2018.
The driver protests his innocence
Miguel Angel Lopez was due to start with the Colombian national team at the World Cycling Championships in Glasgow (August 3-13) and was lined up for the road race and time trial.
The Colombian denies any accusations. (SDA)
