Bad luck at FCB debut: Thierno Barry is sent off the field with yellow and red in St. Gallen.

St. Gallen – Basel 2:1

No, FCB coach Timo Schultz is not one to publicly nail his players to the cross after defeats. That two newcomers Thierno Barry (20) and Jonathan Dubasin (23) are two total failures in the remarkably weak performance against St.Gallen will not have escaped the coach’s attention. The new central defender Fin Van Breemen (20), on the other hand, has had a good start.

The new defense cabinet of St. Gallen, Abdoulaye Diaby (23), can claim much more. Strong as the 1.95 m tall Malian integrates into the game. Like he was always there. His first duel is already a force. Defensively he hardly burns anything, up front Diaby is a weapon thanks to his size. Right back Mattia Zanotti (20) is also a promise. His shot on the crossbar (and the creation thanks to preparer Nikolaj Möller) is one of the most spectacular things the league had to offer this weekend.

YB–Lausanne 2:1

In the unfortunate 1: 2 against YB, a Lausanne player is the best – and even in a 1: 1 comparison, the promoted team is slightly ahead. Thanks to his fantastic dance against YB defender Loris Benito, which he closes with a beautiful flick, Lausanne’s Aliou Baldé can be celebrated as “Man of the Match”. Strong on the ball, tricky and quick off the mark, not only does he nibble on Benito, he’s hard to master for the other YB defenders.

At the Berner, coach Raphael Wicky also says afterwards, some players are not yet physically up to standard. Nsame is hardly to be seen, Rieder is doing his best, but not yet in top condition and captain Lustenberger lacks speed in the current duels.

Zurich – Yverdon 2-0

It is a rather unspectacular game in the Letzigrund. Virtually no emotions. No player has earned more than a passing 4. The prize for the best player goes to Jonathan Okita for putting FCZ on the road to victory. Otherwise no one is really willing to give a peak performance. At Yverdon, meanwhile, most players drop out. In particular Mohamed Tijani, who was completely blown away in his first Super League game. Yellow-red threatened, he leaves the field due to an injury. But there’s a lot more to come from his teammates in the coming weeks. At least Brian Beyer is pretty active in the first half before diving completely.

Winterthur – Lucerne 0-0

The fans on the Schützenwiese can hardly believe their eyes. It’s unbelievable what 20-year-old Lucerne goalie Pascal Loretz scribbles off the line against Winti. Grade 6 thanks to eight saves, some of them strong. The devil is the only Lucerne who can convince. On the other hand, several winners come from the Winti collective. For example, Alexandre Jankewitz (21), who takes control in the second half. Or Basil Stillhart (29), who burns nothing in the back and almost scores a goal just before time.

GC – Napkin 1:3

Napkin striker Chris Bedia was not only the best man on the field at Letzigrund, he also scored 6. If he had scored the two good chances in addition to his two goals, the top score would have been in the end. On the standings side, centre-back Ayumu Seko could also have been rated “worst”. It was not the day of the Japanese, who shrugged off Bedia’s 0:1 and took the penalty of making it 1:3. Yet he was still a “touch better” than storm colleague Renat Dadashov, who did nothing at all.

Editor’s note: Blick only reviews those Super League matches where a reporter is present. The first round of the new season will conclude on Wednesday with the Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy – Lugano board (8.30 p.m.).
