She was allowed to participate at Wimbeldon, but not in Warsaw: Vera Swonarewa.

Tennis player Vera Swonarewa (38) was refused entry at Warsaw airport. Swanarewa would like to play at the WTA 250 tournament in Warsaw next week.

Why Svonarewa, number 60 in the doubles, wanted to play in Warsaw at all, remains unclear, although the entry ban for Russians and Belarusians in Poland is known. The WTA said on Twitter: “We are aware of the situation. The safety and well-being of the players is our top priority.” The winner of the 2020 US Open doubles had left Poland, the WTA will now investigate the matter further.

Already at the European Games in the second half of June in Krakow, athletes from Russia and Belarus were not allowed to enter Poland. (SDA/che)
