Tottenham have their best league start since 1963 but lose Richarlison

Tottenham Hotspur beat Everton 2-0 without impressing. Spurs continue to follow in the footsteps of leaders Arsenal and Manchester City and are even experiencing their best start to the season after ten games since 1963. Spurs had 24 points on the three-point system back then, now they have 23.

Everton had their affairs in order before the break. Son Heung-min and Harry Kane were in a tight spot and ex-toffee Richarlison wasn’t convincing. Everton even had the best chances, but Amadou Onana and Demarai Gray choked on their enthusiasm.

Spurs were 1-0 in the second half but needed a penalty to do so. After a foul by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford on Kane referee Paul Tierney put the ball on point in the 59th minute. Kane took the penalty himself and scored his 258th goal in his 400th appearance for Tottenham.

Richarlison was no longer on the field at this point. The Brazilian stumbled aside in the 52nd minute with a calf injury. The injury will not only worry Tottenham manager Antonio Conte, but also Brazil 36 days before the World Cup.

Richarlison stumbles off the field

Everton refused to bow and again Onana was dangerous but keeper Hugo Lloris was just a little quicker. Pierre-Emile Højbjerg decided the match shortly before the end with a lucky shot.

With the win, Spurs put leaders Arsenal and Manchester City under pressure on Sunday. Arsenal will visit Leeds United on Sunday and Manchester City will take on Liverpool at Anfield.
