Conference League: Basel’s qualifying opponent comes from Kazakhstan

Two-time Premjer-Liga champion Tobyl Kostanai will face FC Basel in the second round of the Conference League qualifiers. The Kazakhs kick Honka Espoo out on Thursday night. After a 2-1 win in the first leg a week ago, Tobyl Kostanai now has a 0-0 draw in Finland to go through.

Basel knows its European Cup opponents. In 2006, in the first round of the UEFA Cup qualifiers, the Bebbi followed up the 0-0 draw in Kazakhstan with a 3-1 win at St. Jakob-Park. The FCB goals were then scored by Mladen Petric (2x) and Eduardo.

The first leg will take place in Basel on July 27, the second leg on August 3. The team of coach Timo Schultz will start the new season next Saturday with the Super League match in St. Gallen. (yup)
