Last fall Jan Ullrich (49) announced that he would tell the whole truth. This should happen in a four-part documentary called “Jan Ullrich – The Hunted”. It will appear on streaming service Amazon Prime at the end of November 2023.
A first trailer has now been released. “I sacrificed my whole life to get where I got to,” Ullrich says. In 1997 he became the first and only German to win the Tour de France. But after the climb, the cycling hero’s total crash quickly followed. Involvement in doping scandals, drug problems, drunk driving in Thurgau, failed marriages – that’s what made the headlines.
“20 years later you see the mistakes you made,” Ullrich says looking back in the trailer. This is followed by a statement that is shocking. “I also felt really bad. I used cocaine in bulk. I drank whiskey like water. Until shortly before death.”
Doping for equal opportunities
Also because his friend Lance Armstrong (51) stood by him even in the darkest hours, Ullrich found his way out of hell. In the documentary he not only talks about his addiction problems, but also about doping. The way of seeing has changed. If he used to think that he only created equal opportunities because everyone also used doping, Ullrich sees it differently now. “It was wrong that I did not cheat on anyone. For me it was trimmed to the opponent, but of course the fans are also part of it. »
Fans who now get a look behind the scenes of Jan Ullrich. And learn even more about the fallen cyclist. (bir)
