Jonas Vingegaard clearly wins the 16th stage of the Tour de France.

A fully unleashed Jonas Vingegaard did not give the competition a chance in the only individual time trial of this Tour de France and gave Tadej Pogacar, his toughest opponent in the battle for the overall victory, a heavy defeat.

In the 22.4 km stage against the clock in the Mont Blanc area, the Dane took 1:38 minutes away from the Slovenian. Vingegaard thus increases his reserve on Pogacar in the general classification to 1:48 minutes.

No exploit by Küng

For Stefan Küng, the World Cup runner-up in the time trial, there are too many altimeters in this mountainous time trial. Until the second split after 16.1 km, Thurgauer is still on track with the fourth best split. Then he switches from the time trial machine to the normal bike for the climb to Comboux, but that doesn’t pay off for Küng.

The Swiss lost a lot of time in the last kilometers, some of which were very steep. In the end there was a gap of almost four minutes, enough for 18th place. Silvan Dillier, the second Swiss, is 7:58 minutes behind in 138th place.

Wednesday is the king’s stage with the difficult climb to the Col de la Loze. At an altitude of 2304 m, this is also the roof of this year’s Tour de France. The 17th stage has 5000 meters of altitude and therefore optimal terrain for Pogacar to fight back against Vingegaard in the battle for the Maillot Jaune. (SDA)
