Marcel Hug is also the fastest at the World Championships in Paris over 800 m.

Marcel Hug leaves the World Cup in Paris as a three-time world champion. After his triumphs over 5000 m and 1500 m, the 37-year-old is also unbeatable over 800 m. On Monday evening, the now thirteen-time world championship gold medalist set a world championship record in 1:29.00 minutes. Hug missed his record in Arbon by almost a second and a half in May.

It was the toughest race of this World Championship, Hug said, but he got off to a good start and was able to pick up the pace at the end. “I gave it my all again and luckily it worked out,” says Hug, who ends the World Cup as the third most successful athlete – behind his two teammates Catherine Debrunner and Manuela Schär, who took home five and four medals respectively.

“Of course I am very happy for Switzerland and our team,” says Hug, before looking ahead to the Paralympics, which will also take place in Paris in a good year. “I hope we can be just as successful then.” (SDA)
