Hertha goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck hit a 22-year-old in the training camp and was detained by the police.

In the night from Saturday to Sunday there was a scandal at the Hertha training camp in Zell am See, Austria. Goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck (28) hit a 22-year-old and was arrested by the police. Now new, ugly details are coming to light.

According to the photo, the incident is said to have occurred between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. when Gersbeck was out with fans from the ultra scene. A trip that was probably not approved by the club management. After an argument, a fight broke out in the street. The newspaper relies on police data.

Lost at least one tooth

According to the media report, the victim of the assault is a resident and was seriously injured in the attack. He would have lost at least one tooth and broken his nose. He is currently being treated at the Tauern clinic in his home country, but the police do not yet see him able to be questioned.

Gersbeck was released by the police around 11 a.m. on Saturday and returned to the training field. There, fellow players and staff members would have watched in amazement as Gersbeck returned to the hotel with officials.

The goalkeeper meanwhile had to leave the training camp and traveled back to Berlin. Salzburg police have launched an investigation into bodily injury, criminal proceedings are ongoing.

Former Ultra

Marius Gersbeck only returned to the Bundesliga relegation team after four years at Karlsruher SC this summer. The goalkeeper comes from Hertha’s youth and used to be active as an ultra in the east corner.

The question is whether he still has a future at Hertha after the warehouse scandal. And coach Pal Dardai (47) is known for undisciplined hard punishment. On Monday afternoon, the Berliners announced that Gersbeck has been suspended until further notice. “Because he left the team hotel without permission and because of the police investigation, we have decided to suspend Marius Gersbeck from team training until further notice,” says Hertha CEO Thomas E. Herrich (59) in the official statement. (byl)
