Bouwmeester keeps an eye on the podium in World Cup sailing with one day to go

Marit Bouwmeester still has her sights set on the podium at the World Sailing Championships. In the Ilca 6 Olympic class, she is fourth after day four with three races to go.

At the sixth race in Kemah, USA, she was eighteenth, at the seventh second. Her result from the fifth race, in which she finished 33rd, was disregarded as it is her worst result to date. It is now at 40 points.

Belgium’s Emma Plasschaert leads the table with 34 points, followed by Denmark’s Anne-Marie Rindom with 37 points and Wiktoria Golebiowska from Poland with 38 points.

Bouwmeester is making her comeback in the United States after giving birth to a child earlier this year. The three-time Olympic medalist in the former Laser Radial class (silver 2012, gold 2016, bronze last year) began training shortly after giving birth and is targeting the Paris 2024 Olympics. The Olympic sailing competitions take place off the coast of Marseille.

Maxime Jonker and Mirthe Akkerman are in the same class as Bouwmeester and respectively fourteenth and fifteenth at Kemah.
