8th place of the 1 m board for Michelle Heimberg.

Water jumper Michelle Heimberg placed eighth in the 1m board final at the World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.

In the final, the 23-year-old from Aargau was unable to match her performance from the semi-final as she qualified for the final among the top twelve as fourth and best European. So her best result at the World Cup remains a 6th place, achieved a year ago in Budapest from the 3m board.

Heimberg’s only Swiss

China’s Lin Shan becomes world champion in the non-Olympic discipline. Silver goes to her compatriot Li Yajie, bronze secures the Mexican Aranza Vazquez Montano.

Heimberg, who won gold at the European Championships in Poland at the end of June, was the only Swiss show jumping rider in the final. Friborg Nation’s Madeline Coquoz, 24, injured her shoulder in training for the title fights and was forced to return to Switzerland early. (SDA)
