Benjamin Mendy, former English champion Manchester City player, has been cleared of rape.
The judges in England consider the 28-year-old French international innocent. He was charged with raping a 29-year-old woman on his estate in Cheshire, North West England, in October 2018. The charge also alleges the attempted rape of a 24-year-old took place there two years later.
Mendy tearfully accepted the acquittal. He had previously been acquitted of six counts of rape and one count of assault in a separate trial. At the time, however, the judges were unable to agree on a decision on the two charges that have now been renegotiated.
Mendy last played for Man City in August 2021. It is not yet known how he will continue in terms of football. (mom/SDA)
