American professional boxer Devin Haney (24) does not have to prove himself in the ring for once, but handles legal matters. He was arrested Thursday morning in Los Angeles and charged with having a firearm in a vehicle.
Haney and his father, trainer and manager Bill Haney, 44, who was driving his son’s car, were pulled over by police after Bill Haney changed lanes without using the turn signal. Then authorities found a semi-automatic weapon in the car. An official from the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed this to the American television channel ESPN.
However, Haney was released on $35,000 bail. Still, he has to appear in court in Los Angeles on August 3. Papa Haney says, “It’s a misunderstanding that will be cleared up when Devin is in court.” He is confident that it can be resolved that way.
It wasn’t until May that Devin Haney celebrated one of the biggest wins of his career. He defeated former boxer Wassyl Lomatikenko (35) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Thus, he was able to defend his lightweight titles, the WBC, WBO, WBA and IBF belts.
