The World Cycling Federation has banned transgender riders from competing in women’s races. This was decided by the UCI management committee based in Aigle VD. “From now on, transgender athletes who have transitioned after male puberty are prohibited from participating in women’s competitions on the UCI international calendar – in all categories – in the different disciplines,” the world federation said in a statement.
The board of the umbrella organization has decided on the new rules in an extraordinary meeting. This was preceded by an exchange with affected athletes, scientists and interest groups. Transgender people are people who do not identify with the sex they were assigned at birth. (SDA)
