In the FCZ training camp in Tyrol, Bledian Krasniqi (22) has to sweat a lot. The central midfielder makes some extra substitutions. The reason: Krasniqi missed some preparation time by participating in the U21 European Championship, which is now compensated by a partly individual program.
“After the EM I had a few days of vacation, which I spent at home. I’ve been in hotels enough,” says the homegrown FCZ, after the national team’s time in Romanian hotels, now in Ried, Austria, in a conversation with a view, already sitting in a hotel again.
At the U21 European Championship Krasniqi only got four minutes of playing time, in the central positions the competition with A-Nati experienced Ardon Jashari (20), Fabian Rieder (21) and Kastriot Imeri (23) was tough for him.
New contract until 2026 with a clear focus
It must look very different in the Super League. Krasniqi is expected to make the leap to become a starter in the new season. After the departure of veterans Blerim Dzemaili (37) and Ole Selnaes (29) from midfield, FCZ hopes that the gap will be filled internally. With Krasniqi, who has also extended his contract until 2026.
He says: “The extra time just felt right. I feel completely at ease at FCZ, that’s my club. Now I really want to get off the ground here and become a top player.”
The fact that Krasniqi should develop into a leading player was central to the contract talks. Because Zurich has been hesitant to switch until now. And new midfielder Israeli Arad Bar (23) may need a few months to get used to. Krasniqi: “I now want to take the next step that the club entrusts to me. I also put that pressure on myself. I want to give the team more input, score more goals and give more assists.”
Will Krasniqi make millions for the FCZ?
The career development with the apprenticeship at FC Wil and now two years in the professional Zurich team with a lot of working time has been good so far. But now comes the groundbreaking season. Will Krasniqi remain the talented junior forever or will he potentially bring in millions for FC? The long-term contract required for this has been in effect since the beginning of July.
But Krasniqi now has to perform on the pitch. “I am confident that I will grow in my new role,” he says. The last FCZ test match before the start of the season will give a first clue. On Friday, Zurich will play 4×30 minutes against Greuther Fürth in Austria.
