The experienced Van Riessen (35) seemed to win the first heat, but the jury finally awarded it to Friedrich. The official time difference was 0.000 seconds but the German was apparently a bit faster and was putting Van Riessen under pressure.
The national coach of the Netherlands, René Wolff, visited the jury to ask for the photo finish. However, this did not change the jury’s verdict. In the second run, Van Riessen had no chance and the superior German won.
Van Riessen drives for bronze against Emma Hinze or Mathilde Gros, who will drive a third and decisive heat.

After a sixth place in the elimination race, Maike van der Duin is now second in the omnium. American Jennifer Valente took the lead again from the 21-year-old rider from Assen.
After the first two parts, Van der Duin was still the leader after a fifth place in the scratch and a win in the pace race. Later in the evening, the omnium will be decided in a points race.
The gap to first place is 8 points, a difference that can be bridged in the points race.
