The Australian Nick Kyrgios (28) and the Serbian superstar Novak Djokovic (36) were at odds for years and were anything but friends. It’s very different now. Meanwhile, Kyrgios is even publicly rooting for the upcoming Wimbledon semifinals, according to Instagram shows.

On stage, Kyrgios clearly responded to a post from Djokovic after he reached the semi-finals: “Come on, win this thing, mate!”

The Insta-Post shows: Kyrgios is now on Djokovic’s side.

Enmity is not long ago

The friendship between the two tennis greats was not always rosy. On the contrary: Kyrgios often shot against Djokovic in recent years. In 2019, he briefly posted a video to Instagram in which he crossed out the words “Novak” on a fan’s T-shirt with a black pen.

But that wasn’t all: Kyrgios didn’t have to be asked twice when he was asked to draw a large cross over it. He did not leave this action uncommented: “I think that of you. And your shirt is gone now,” Kyrgios told the camera.

Praise after bankruptcy in final

That changed at the latest in the Wimbledon final last year, when Djokovic and Kyrgios faced each other. The Serb won the title in four sets (4: 6, 6: 3, 6: 4 and 7: 6), but there was still a lot of praise from the opponent and former intimate enemy Kyrgios.

There was no danger of a duel on the field from the start this year. Nick Kyrgios was unable to participate in Wimbledon due to a wrist injury. But it’s certainly enough to keep our fingers crossed for Djokovic. The semi-final of the Serbian against Jannik Sinner (21) is scheduled for Friday at 2.30 pm.
