The Italian defender completes his adaptation after regenerative knee treatment with growth factors
Eight months ago, Luca Ferrone’s ordeal for Racing began (Sorrento, 1993). In the fatal match against Córdoba, in the race for the tape, he slipped and fell down. Since then, the breakout player from the start of last season has been stuck in a complicated recovery from a torn meniscus, with many ups and downs.
-How are you?
— I’m not training with the team yet. I’m going for an MRI tomorrow to see how the regenerative treatment I’m undergoing has affected me. And starting next week, I will start again little by little, with things like running, which I couldn’t do because of the treatment.
— He will have a terrible desire to be another again.
– It is true that if. It was very difficult mentally. You see yourself outside the dynamics of the team and you don’t feel like a footballer. Now all that remains is for the knee to respond well to adaptation to training.
— He has been on this Via Crucis since October with a meniscus injury.
— It was a big tear, almost half of the meniscus. It was decided to sew and I couldn’t stand it. He left me at two and a half months. I was operated on again, and the operation was a bit complicated because the suture connectors got stuck to other parts of the knee. And that, we believe that this time may have harmed me. The recovery had a lot of ups and downs as it looked like I could come back, but I started training and the knee didn’t respond. In fact, other problems arose before the entry attempt.
— It seemed much less important, but did it become the worst injury of your career?
– It shouldn’t have been. I had surgery from the crusader, which should be the worst, but I recovered before what I’m going through. More than anything, the worst thing is the uncertainty that I see that I haven’t just left. It breaks me on a psychological level. I can finish one session but the next day my knee is swollen. These are problems that I hope are now beginning to pass.
“How was the summer?” He did not leave Ferrol to continue his recovery.
— In four weeks, I received three injections of growth factors, PRPs. I trained six days a week and one day off. And I did a lot of gym exercises and knee stability. Everything, without the possibility of running or jumping, in order to avoid the impact. I am very grateful for the support of my wife and son.
— Recovery with the support and favor of racinguism.
– In this short time that I played, nine games, Ferrol shows me that he loves me. I’m not a media-profiled player, I prefer that people know me by what I show on the field and the values I try to convey while playing. And I know that it’s harder to reach people that way because I’m very reserved. But everyone gives me a lot of love, through social networks and on the street. They stop me to ask how I’m doing, send me messages of encouragement…
— It’s time to leave the fateful journey behind us.
– My first goal is to get well. I don’t want to set deadlines because it turns out that it doesn’t work. The first thing is to feel comfortable within the new limitations my body will have, and grow from there.
— How is the integration of new colleagues going?
— There are currently only three, but in line with last season. Racing signs players with a personal profile that they contribute to. I already knew Señé. We played twice last season, he lived in Mallorca when I was in the Balearics, we have mutual friends…
—What are the goals set for the new academic year?
I think we have to continue in the same direction of work. The goals at the group level are to establish themselves in the category, first of all try to start well, lay good foundations and grow, but always calmly. We just got to the category. And personally to consolidate as a second division player, to play as many minutes as possible. I want to show my level.
— A message for fans.
— To continue with what he lived. This is very important for the club. What motivates me the most is seeing young people and children on the street wearing a Racing jersey, not Real Madrid. I often go to the park because I take my son, I see her often. And that is very nice. When my son wants to play football, he asks me for a Racing jersey. He is another racing player.
“My family and I are happy in Ferrol”
— Your phase in Racing, was it the most difficult period of your career?
-Definitely. It was very difficult, but at the same time it is one of the most beautiful memories I have from my career.
— Last summer, he arrived almost at the end of the preseason, but he took the place of the starter.
– I have to thank the coach a lot because he was patient with me. He had only been out of work for two months, with less rhythm than his teammates, and he was very confident. He gave me a lot of peace, which was very important to get off to a good start.
-Which party are you staying with?
— I have a special memory of the one we won against Castilla, when we were hit by a flood. There was a lot of intensity and I think it was a good match for me. But it’s been so long… I just think the injury came when I was raising my best level. It started to really gas up.
— In his prime, he was injured in the same fateful match as Fernando Pumar, who was also a pillar of that magnificent starting line.
— I think it had a psychological effect on the group. We got to the point where we didn’t lose many days and went on, if I remember correctly, to lose six games out of ten. But in those moments, the greatness of what has been built comes to the fore. Carlos Mouriz doesn’t do things that need to be done, he knows the importance of the group.
— How do you remember the promotion day?
— Even if you’re not inside, you’re playing outside. In the second part I saw her standing and screaming. I scream a lot, that’s my way of looking at football, I live it with great intensity. And with the second goal, I quickly went down in celebration.
— How are you in Ferrol?
— My family and I are happy, life is very good here. Although we didn’t go to Valencia these weeks, we really enjoyed our holiday in Ferrol and the beach. We haven’t passed the heat of Valencia or Italy! You can sleep at night!
