Hoogland qualifies for the time trial final at the Force Majeure World Championships

Jeffrey Hoogland has convincingly qualified for the final of the 1km time trial at the Track Cycling World Championships in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France. The number two of Thursday’s keirin and world champion of 2018 and 2021 lapped 58.294 (67.578 kilometers per hour).

Hoogland, who crashed after the Keirin final but apparently had no after-effects, finished more than first place in the field of 25 riders on his time. Number two Matteo Bianchi from Italy conceded 1.1 seconds.

Tonight at 8pm Hoogland and Bianchi will be back on track with six others for the medals battle.

Maike van der Duin won silver in scratch on the opening day of the World Championships on Wednesday. Today she started cycling again, but this time as the first task of the omnium. The 21-year-old crossed the finish line in fifth place. Victory went to American Jennifer Valente, who scored 40 points.

The speed race, the second of the four parts to be completed, is scheduled for later in the afternoon, followed by the elimination race and the points race tonight.

Laurine van Riessen will also be back in action tonight. She has to compete in the semi-finals of the sprint tournament against Germany’s Lea Sophie Friedrich, who returned home with silver last year.
