“Making goals was our great loss”, Lucerne coach Mario Frick (48) recently analyzed last season. The FCL scored 54 goals in the competition on the field. According to the expected goals, it should have been at least ten more.
Sports director Remo Meyer (42) knew what had to be done: find strikers who guarantee goals. And with Teddy Okou (25), Kevin Spadanuda (26) and Kemal Ademi (27), he got them. Even though two of them have not had an easy season.
“I missed goals”
Now it’s up to Frick to get the gate machine up and running. In the planned 4-3-3 and 4-1-4-1 game systems, Spadanuda is intended for the left wing, Ademi as a nine and Okou for the right wing. Under the abbreviation SpAdOk they want to cause a spectacle. “It has already been matched between us off the field. Hopefully it will do the same soon,” says a cheerful Spadanuda enthusiastically in an interview with Blick.
After a year in Ligue 1 with Ajaccio (0 goals/1 assist), the Bülacher is back in Switzerland and in the Super League for the first time. “As a promoted team, we were very defensive, so I missed offensive football and scored goals,” says Spadanuda, who scored 21 goals for Aarau last season and prepared 6 more. “That’s why I was looking for a team that wants to play offensively.”
Breathe with confidence
Ademi also wants to celebrate his own goals regularly again. In the last three years, he has scored just four goals with five clubs. What does he say to the critics? “If someone has already proven something in a league, he can always bring it back. I know the Super League quite well.” In the 2019/20 season, he scored 13 goals for Basel.
His new strike partner was the deciding factor in Ademi’s move to Lucerne. “When I heard about the transfers that were still going on, I was a big fan of this project.”
Meyer delivered
With Okou, the FCL also has last year’s top scorer in the Challenge League. “I’ll do pretty well when I graduate,” he says with a laugh. His strengths also include speed and dribbling. “If it does something for the team and I see an opportunity to dribble out opponents, then I try it.”
With the commitment of this trio, sports director Meyer has made good for the time being. But there is still work to be done at the center of the storm. Who will be Ademi’s backup? Joaquin Ardaiz (24), Asumah Abubakar (26) or Lars Villiger (20)? Two is probably too many. Or what if it turns into a completely different (Bradley Fink?) on loan? In any case, the Lucerne storm revolution is still going on.
