The new national coach of the Swiss U21 national team is called Sascha Stauch. The 49-year-old succeeds Patrick Framework, who has moved to FC Winterthur.
Stauch is a logical choice, as he was assistant to Mauro Lustrinelli, Frame’s predecessor, from 2018 to June 2022. From August 2022 he coached the U17, which he led to the quarter-finals of the European Championship in May. Stauch has been working with the Swiss Football Association (SFV) since 2014, initially as an opponent observer for the Swiss U21s.
“He knows the game philosophy of the SFV very well, identifies with the association,” said Pierluigi Tami, director of the Swiss national teams, in a statement. “I am very happy that we have found an internal solution.”
Qualification for the 2025 European U21 Championship will begin in September 2023 with the away game in Finland. Those born in 2002 and younger are eligible to play in the new campaign. The other opponents are Montenegro, Armenia, Romania and Albania. (SDA/dti)
