Facing serious allegations: Zambia coach Bruce Mwape.

Shortly before the Women’s World Cup, serious accusations were made against Bruce Mwape (63), the coach of the Zambian women’s team, from an anonymous source. Based on the statements of the nameless person, the coach is now even being investigated for sexually transgressive behaviour. This is reported by the British newspaper The Guardian.

The 63-year-old is accused of having regular sex with his players. “If he wants to sleep with a player, you have to say yes,” says the anonymous source. And “it is normal that he sleeps with our players. If you say anything about the incident, you risk sanctions.”

First allegations a year ago

Similar allegations about the coach were made a year ago. The Zambian Association said at the time that the events were being processed. “While there have been no official complaints from anyone about the allegations, we take the situation very seriously and will investigate this matter,” it said. The investigations have not yet produced any results. FIFA has since intervened in this regard.

In addition to the accusations against the coach, there are other negative headlines about the Zambian team: striker Barbra Banda (23) has too high a testosterone level. which normally only occur in men.

Banda is eligible to play at the World Cup

Because of the values, Banda was not allowed to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations last year. She will be eligible to play for the upcoming World Cup, since FIFA does not carry out gender tests and leaves this to the unions.

Zambia’s national women’s team finished third in last year’s Africa Cup of Nations, qualifying for the upcoming World Cup in Australia and New Zealand (July 20 – August 20). The Africans have to play against Japan, Spain and Costa Rica. The Swiss national team will play against New Zealand, Norway and the Philippines. (par)
