Huge cheers on Sunday afternoon in the Lidl Arena in Wil! The Helvetic Guards beat the Barcelona Dragons 22:19 after extra time and celebrate their first victory in team history in the sixth game of the season.

The road to historic success is rocky and very dramatic. Because if the score is 19:19, the game goes into overtime. And because no team scores there for a long time, the game even goes into the second overtime. At 35 degrees in the shade.

The defense holds

A field goal allows the Guards, again led by US running back Silas Nacita, to finally take the lead at 10:19 PM. Because their defense survived the last Spanish attack in the final seconds, the Swiss are the lucky winners of the heated battle in Wil.

The Helvetic Guards is a newly founded football team from Switzerland, which has been playing in the European League of Football (ELF) since this season. There the team competes with the European football elite. (byl)
