Petra Klingler (31) has announced that she will end her career after the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Switzerland’s most successful sport climber was able to celebrate one of her greatest successes in 2016 by winning the world title in the bouldering discipline. Before the Olympics there is another career highlight with the World Championships at home in Bern.
“It was an incredible time that gave me many precious moments, encounters and unforgettable experiences,” Klingler said in a press release. “I gave everything to achieve my goals and I am proud that despite many obstacles I have found my own way.” She hopes she can also be a role model. “With the World Cup at home in Bern in 2023, the circle has come full circle and now I feel it’s time to take a new path.”
Finishing her career on the “Olympic podium” in Paris in the summer of 2024 will be the great goal of her career. For this, Klingler wants to throw everything back into the balance. Climbing should remain an important part of her life even after retirement. A look into the future promises many exciting projects. (dti)
