Viktoria Golubic fails in the 2nd round of Wimbledon.

The Swiss tennis player Viktorija Golubic (WTA 139) is eliminated in the second round at the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament, just like last year. The 30-year-old from Zurich lost 5: 7, 3: 6 to American Madison Keys, number 25.

Golubic cannot repeat her fairy tale from two years ago, when she reached the quarter-finals, partly thanks to a win against Keys. This time she can’t get the favorite into trouble when she serves.

The Swiss can make up for a first break to 1:3 via a setback post, but after that she only comes close to a serve break and is always on the defensive. At 4:5 she can fend off two set balls, at 5:6 no more.

In the second set, Golubic has the chance to break early, but she cannot use it. So the lost service game to 2:4 is already a provisional decision. After 1:20, the 2017 US Open finalist used her second match ball to advance to the third round.

This leaves only Belinda Bencic in Frauenfeld of the original five Swiss women. The number 14 seeded Eastern Switzerland will play its match in the third round on Friday afternoon against Magda Linette from Poland, who is nine places behind. (SDA/dti)
