Novak Djokovic dries Center Court.

Novak Djokovic (36, ATP 2), who could tie with record holder Roger Federer with an eighth Wimbledon win, fell behind early with a break against Argentine sand specialist Pedro Cachin (28, ATP 68), but won easily with 6:3 , 6:3, 7:6 (7:4) through.

The history of the game was more like an hour and a half rain stoppage – despite the lockable roof over Center Court. It’s just a shame those responsible let the cover be pulled over the pitch way too late. Djokovic, drying the wet lawn himself with a towel, took the disturbance with a smile. “That was probably my funniest match here,” the “Djoker” grinned.

Comfortable

With the roof open or closed, the best placed Iga Swiatek (22, WTA 1) was in a hurry. The Pole, who never got further than the round of 16 at Wimbledon, defeated the Chinese Zhu Lin (29, WTA 34) 6: 3, 6: 1 in the first round. (sda/cmu)
