FC Frutigen already experienced a long-planned big party at the end of June with the 75th anniversary. Will there be another football party in the Kandertal this year, this time unexpectedly?
The Frutiger amateurs from the 3rd division are in the main round of the cup for the first time in club history. Now the Bernese hope for the big draw in the draw on Monday. The crazy thing: Frutigen can immediately draw its own dream ticket. As a cup participant, the FCF is allowed to participate in the draw at the SFV via the fair play rating – second behind the automatically placed women from Lausanne.
This task falls to club president Thomas Rösch. He tells Blick: “We are very much looking forward to the draw. FC Thun as an opponent would be great. And of course YB would be great too!”
The infrastructure would be ready for a cup festival
But could the 3rd Division team handle the size of a Challenge League or Super League guest game over the weekend of August 18-20? Chairman Rösch immediately says that this would not be a problem. The infrastructure with three places belongs to the club itself. “We also have a brand new clubhouse,” says Rösch, whose club has 20 junior teams plus two active teams, a senior team and a women’s team.
Incidentally, the women could also meet a representative of the Super League in the cup draw. Besides Frutigen, there are only two other 3rd division teams in the pot with Affoltern am Albis and Kleinhüningen.
More work for the club in the jubilee year?
One thing is already clear: Rösch will have to listen to statements after the draw on Monday. If Frutigen “only” comes to a cup match against a lesser-known opponent from a higher amateur class, there are statements about the missed opportunity against Thun or YB. But when the dreamless comes, there will also be sayings: Because the club members should organize another big event after the construction of the clubhouse and the anniversary party.
Rösch smiles and says: “We should actually be doing a lot of work again. But we could too!”
