Celine Naef made her first main draw at a Grand Slam tournament.

Eight Swiss tennis professionals compete in Wimbledon (lawn) in the first round of the most prestigious tournament of the year. Among the women these are: Belinda Bencic (WTA 14), Simona Waltert (WTA 115), Jil Teichmann (WTA 129), Viktorija Golubic (WTA 138) and Céline Naef (WTA 165).

Waltert, Golubic and Naef make it to the main field through successful qualification. With 6: 4, 7: 5, Waltert defeated Colombian Emiliana Arango (WTA 184) in the third qualifying round. Golubic defeats Despina Papamichail (WTA 188) from Greece 6:2, 7:6 (7:5). Naef defeated Ukrainian Dajana Jastremska (WTA 152) 6: 2, 3: 6, 6: 4. Schwyzer, who turned 18 on Sunday, will make her debut at Grand Slam level next week.

The men’s trio consists of Marc-Andrea Hüsler (ATP 83), Stan Wawrinka (ATP 87) and Dominic Stricker (ATP 117). In the decisive qualifying round, Stricker won against Italian Mattia Bellucci (ATP 160) 6: 3, 1: 6, 6: 3, 6: 4. The 20-year-old from Bern is in the main draw of a major event for the second time. The same applies to 22-year-old Waltert from Graubünden. Both came to their Grand Slam baptism of fire at the 2023 French Open. (JEP)
