The wear and tear on man and machine is great during the three-week Tour de France (July 1 to July 23). While the riders use a lot of energy, the racing bikes of the pros also have to endure a lot. This of course has its price. Here’s what a bike that achieves top results in the Tour de France costs.
One of the favorites on this year’s tour is Tadej Pogacar. The overall winner of the 2020 and 2021 Tour de France will ride a bicycle from the Italian manufacturer Colnago. The bike was put together especially for the Slovenian and has a proud price:

In addition, there are various extras such as handlebar tape, computer holder, bottle cages, etc. An additional charge of approx. CHF 180 will be charged for these extras. All this results in a proud price of 16,018 Swiss francs – and therefore costs more than a Fiat Panda (around 15,000 francs).
Most expensive bike on the tour
But if you think Pogacar rides the most expensive bike on the tour, you’re wrong. The speedsters from Ineos Grenadiers are the frontrunners in this price range. The British team enters the race with the new Pinarello Bolide F. The bike can be purchased from Pinarello’s official website for £30,000. However, the price does not include any professional tires or accessories required by the drivers during the tour.
A bicycle from the Swiss manufacturer BMC is about in the middle of the price range at the Tour de France. The Teammachine SLR01 model is available on the official BMC website for CHF 15,999.
Pro bikes are available
Incidentally, bicycles that professionals need on the tour must be accessible to everyone. This is stated by the umbrella organization Union Cycliste International (UCI). This means that only technology that is on the market or will be on the market within the next 12 months may be used on a tour.
