Former Scotland coach Craig Brown has died aged 82.

Scottish football mourns the loss of longtime coach Craig Brown. According to the national association, Brown died at the age of 82 after a short illness.

Brown coached the Scotland national team for 71 games from 1993 to 2001 and is the longest serving national team manager in his country to date.

He celebrated his greatest successes with qualifying for the 1996 European Championship in England and the World Cup two years later in France. After Scotland subsequently missed participation in the 2000 European Championship and the 2002 World Cup under his leadership, the association said goodbye to him in 2001 and hired the German ex-world champion Berti Vogts as his successor.
