FCZ warmed up for the new season with an 8-0 victory over the weekend. The opponent? Kreuzlings from the 1st class. But is the goal feast with four-time goalscorer Antonio Marchesano (32) still a good indication of how Zurich wants to perform in the new season?

Because Zurich recently offered little offensive spectacle. Last season, after the historically weak start to the season, everything revolved around staying in the league.

Under coach Bo Henriksen (48), that was the third best second half of all teams. The relegation ghost was chased away with pragmatic but poorly played football – will FCZ return to the spectacular football from the championship year in the new season?

Henriksen is looking for a balance between playing style and result

Henriksen told Blick on the day training started: “Whether we change style depends on the players we will have available. We won’t know until the transfer window closes. We want to change the style a bit. Or rather , even change a lot. But we also want to win games. You have to find the right constellation.”

The head coach from Denmark is also deputy sports director due to the departure of Marinko Jurendic (45). “It is not a dream scenario. But we will succeed. It is an advantage that a large part of the team is already there.” The Dane wants to significantly reduce the 32-strong selection, which is currently being supplemented with many talents from the reserves.

What Henriksen needs for more spectacle is not surprising. More goals. At the age of 41, Zurich scored as many goals as relegated Sion, champion YB had exactly twice as many to his name. “We didn’t score 1,000 goals last season,” says Henriksen. “So we need to strengthen this area. But it’s not just about strikers. But in general about players who can hit. We need to be more dangerous everywhere.”

Avdijaj gets a second chance

Someone who is also dangerous as an attacking midfielder and not just as a striker returns to FCZ: Donis Avdijaj (26). The favorite player of former FCZ coach Franco Foda (57) did not get a chance under Henriksen and was loaned to Ösi-Klub Hartberg in the winter.

Will Schalke’s former super talent get a second chance? Henriksen says yes, but makes demands. “We look at how he presents himself. If he comes back with the right attitude and the right power and is better than the other players, he will play.”
