Following the departure of Jude Bellingham (19) to Real Madrid, BVB is looking for a replacement in central midfield. At the top of the Dortmund list is Wolfsburg shooting star Felix Nmecha (22). The German would have had a crush on BVB coach Edin Terzic (40). But now the fans of the German runner-up are on the barricades and want to prevent the transfer at all costs.
The reason for this are trans and homophobic views that the midfielder has shared several times on Instagram in the past. In February, he posted a post by American right-wing extremist Matt Walsh (37), who in a video sharply criticized the father of a transsexual child. He apologized for this in an interview.
Is BVB ignoring its own code?
But the second excitement followed in early June. In his Instagram story, he compared the LGBTQ movement to the devil. In June of all times, when the “Pride” month is celebrated with large parades around the world. Again an apology followed.
Such content strongly clashes with Dortmund’s values. In November 2022, BVB presented a code of basic values. It says: “We will always work for social success. By this we mean club life and a society free of racism, anti-Semitism, LGBTI+ hostility, sexism, violence and discrimination.”
Sponsor intervenes
Not least for this reason, much of the Dortmund fan scene is strongly opposed to Nmecha’s commitment. On Friday night, numerous supporters gathered in front of the Signal Iduna Park and presented a banner reading: “@BVB: Stand by your values!” The possible transfer is also criticized on social media. “Nobody wants you at BVB,” writes a fan on Instagram under a photo of the midfielder.
But not only the yellow-black fans are against Nmecha’s commitment. As the “Spiegel” reports, a sponsor from Dortmund has contacted the management of Hans-Joachim Watzke (64) and expressed concerns about a possible transfer of the 22-year-old. Which partner is involved, the German news portal does not say.
Wolfsburg demands up to 20 million euros
The German media also advise BVB against a possible deployment of the brand new German national player. The headline of the sports newspaper “Ran”: “Dear BVB, don’t touch Felix Nmecha!” The sports portal “Spox” criticizes the Dortmunders: “BVB reveals its own values for Felix Nmecha.”
The transfer from Nmecha to Dortmund is not yet certain. According to “Bild”, the midfielder should already agree with BVB. Only the transfer modalities still have to be clarified by the clubs. With a fee of 15 to 20 million euros, Wolfsburg could go weak and let the 22-year-old move to Dortmund. (mab)
