In 2019, Henrik Kristoffersen took the NSF to court for a ban on driving with a helmet from his sponsor Red Bull. Due to the strict marketing rules, the income of the athletes is also falling. However, in 2022, the association’s legal committee made concessions: in the future, skiers should be involved in the dialogue on how their image rights can be used in agreements with sponsors. The athletes have complained to the NSF’s oversight body that the new agreement is inconsistent with the decision made at the time. Øistein Lunde, Secretary General of the NSF, leaves a back door open for adjustments: “There is an ongoing process and dialogue with the athletes to find solutions.” (dti)
