After the first round, Switzerland was still very close to the leading Argentines with 4 penalties. Only Elian Baumann on Little Lumpi and Martin Fuchs on Commissar Pezi had a down. Bryan Balsiger with Chelsea Z and Steve Guerdat with Is-Minka came through without a knockout.

Balsiger also came through flawlessly in the second round. Olympic champion Guerdat almost succeeded with a fall on the last hurdle. Since Baumann also had a down, Fuchs had to remain clear as the last rider if Switzerland wanted to calculate a chance of victory. But this attempt failed. (SDA)
