Mourning in the ski jumping world: American Patrick Gasienica († 24) died in a motorcycle accident on the night from Monday to Tuesday. The US Ski Association reports this on its website. No information has been released about the course of the accident.
“The thoughts and condolences of USA Nordic Sport and US Ski & Snowboard are with his family, friends and the ski jumping community,” the federation wrote in a statement. His trainer Scott Smith is also appalled: «Patrick was very popular in the ski jumping scene. Our hearts are broken, we will miss him terribly!”
Gasienica competed in the Junior World Championships in 2016 and 2017, and he was also part of the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2019. At the 2022 Beijing Olympics, he qualified for the normal hill competition and finished 49th. he was part of the American team, which finished tenth.
