Scandal in the council chamber! A session of the Vaud cantonal parliament had to be canceled on Tuesday because a left-wing councilor had accused an FDP colleague at the microphone of sexual harassment.
The already tense debate centered on the former occupiers of Mormont Hill. In March 2021, environmentalists protested against the expansion of a quarry owned by the Holcim building materials group in Eclépens and occupied the site.
Victim apologized
When Elodie Lopez (29) of the Ensemble à Gauche – POP party spoke out, she criticized FDP councilor Jean-Luc Bezencon (69) and accused him of not being a role model himself. She spoke of inappropriate behavior with hints of “sexual harassment”.
The person concerned reacted immediately and spoke of a “scandal” and “slander”. He demanded an apology, otherwise there was nothing left to do but report it. Several of his colleagues were equally outraged, speaking of an “unfounded attack” and also demanding an apology.
Lopez did not apologize. The session was initially adjourned for nearly an hour and then aborted when most of the right-wing MPs left the room. (SDA/lha)
