The State Secretariat has found four suitable locations. These are Thun BE, Bière VD, Turtmann VS and Bure JU. There it turned out that container settlements are essentially feasible, the SEM announced on Monday. The State Secretariat is currently clarifying open questions with the local communities and the cantons.
Clarifications for other possible locations are underway, but are even less advanced. Only after the concept has been worked out can the SEM provide details about the number and distribution of asylum seekers.
To finance the additional 3,000 places, the Federal Council has applied to parliament for a precautionary loan of approximately CHF 133 million. The Federal Public Service Justice and Police (FDJP) is coming up with a global strategy for temporary housing.
